GSP Gives Video Update On UFC Contract Negotiations

Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre took to social media yesterday with a video message directed at middleweight champion Michael Bisping, who earlier this week had emplored the Canadian superstar to sign a contract to fight him at UFC 206 in Toronto on December 10th.

“Nothing would make me happier than fighting you in Toronto, Michael,” GSP informed Bisping. “Last week I met with Ari [Emanuel], and I made peace with Dana [White]. I tried to resolve things, but unfortunately, it’s not happening. Hopefully things will change soon. Thank you.”

That appears to confirm White’s brief statement earlier this week that a fight between Bisping and GSP would not be taking place at the event, despite the champion’s claim that the two had been locked in talks for several days in Las Vegas.

GSP’s update does however show what the legendary fighters true intentions are, after claiming last week that he was now a free agent, with his legal team tearing up his existing deal with the UFC due to the promotion failing to offer him a fight.

Despite that bold move, it would appear that the 35 year-old still has his heart set on returning to the UFC one way or another, but the UFC’s new owners, together with Dana White, are continuing to play hardball despite St-Pierre being of the most dominant, and indeed most successful, fighters in the history of the sport.

Hopefully the matter can be resolved sooner rather than later without the need for long, drawn-out legal proceedings, but for now it seems that it’s not going to happen in time for UFC 206 in December.
