GSP Injured Achilles Tendon Prior To UFC 158; May Take 6 Months Off

Georges St.Pierre claimed a comfortable decision win over Nick Diaz on Saturday night at UFC 158, and according to his trainer Firas Zahabi the welterweight champion did so despite being injured.

According to Zahabi, GSP hurt his achilles tendon during training, but while it was painful it turned out not to be torn and so they decided to go ahead with the fight.

They kept it secret however, fearing that Diaz could take advantage of the situation if he found out due to his expertise with ankle submissions.

They have still to find out if the fight has further aggrevated the injury, but it will now require treatment for a few weeks.

The Canadian superstar doesn’t intend to make a quick return to the Octagon after the injury heals however, with Zahabi indicating that GSP intends to take a six month break before fighting again.

That would mean he’d be ready to fight again in September, with Johny Hendricks appearing to be his most likely opponent.
