Dana White dropped some big news during the latest episode of the UFC Unfiltered podcast, revealing that a fight between former welterweight middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre and Nate Diaz has been targeted for an upcoming pay-per-view event.
“We are working right now to put together a Georges St-Pierre versus Nate Diaz fight,” the UFC president said. “It is true. They would fight at 155 pounds.”
White also went on to ringmark UFC 227 in Los Angeles on August 4th as a potential landing spot for the money-spinning match-up.
“In my perfect world ā nothing goes perfect in this world ā Dillashaw vs. Garbrandt, GSP vs. Diaz would be the co-main, Gustafsson vs. Rockhold and Derek Brunson vs. Antonio Carlos Jr.,” White revealed. “It’s very interesting.”
However, it should be stressed that at this stage pitting St-Pierre against Diaz is just an idea and MMAfighting’s Ariel Helwani has indicated that the word behind the scenes is that there is still a lot of work to do before it could become a reality.
“UFC is interested, no doubt, but Iād categorize the talks as preliminary right now,” Helwani wrote on Twitter. “Both men, quite recently, expressed very little interest in the fight for differing reasons. Few hurdles.”
