Hold up people – maybe UFC superstar Georges St.Pierre is going to announce something we’re all going to want to hear after all as Dana White has revealed he’s going to hold a hastily arranged ‘special media conference call’ with the long-time welterweight champion.
Earlier this week White had poured cold water on the idea that GSP was going to make a big announcement at a press conference in Canada, stating that it was in fact just a local presser at the opening of a shopping mall which had been scheduled months ago.
However, White did say that he intended to speak with St.Pierre on Thursday after the fighter got back from vacation, and it would appear that whatever was said at that stage between has prompted the UFC to schedule this media call.
White wouldn’t be drawn on what it is they plan to reveal, simply saying that it was, “stuff that people want to hear.”
So, we’re back to speculating what this announcement could be, with the main options being that either, A) He’s going to announce his retirement; B) He’s going to take an extended break and will vacate the title; or C) He’s going to accept an immediate rematch with Johny Hendricks.
Given that White is going into 2014 already missing his lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis and heavyweight title holder Cain Velasquez who are both going to be out for most of the year due to injury, not to mention the fact that GSP is by far his biggest pay-per-view draw, it’s guaranteed that he’ll have been putting heavy pressure on St.Pierre to get back to fighting again as quickly as possible.
It’s a finely balanced situation though, so it’s going to be fascinating to see what comes of this call which is scheduled to commence at 2.20pm ET (7.20pm UK) so stay tuned to https://mmainsight.com to find out the news as it happens.
