welterweight star Gunnar Nelson will fight Santiago Ponzinibbio in the main event of UFC 113 in Glasgow, Scotland on Sunday, July 16th the promotion confirmed today.
Nelson is currently riding a two-fight winning streak, snapping up ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards along the way for his submission wins over Albert Tumenov and Alan Jouban.
That leaves the 28-year-old Icelandic fighter with an overall 7-2 record in the UFC so far and is ranked No.9 in the official rankings heading into his second time headlining a UFC show.
His opponent, the 30-year-old Ponzinibbio will be appearing at the top of the bill for the first time in the UFC after compiling a four-fight winning streak against the likes of Court McGee, Zak Cummings and Nordine Taleb in the past couple of years.
Ponzinibbio’s overall UFC record is similar to Nelson’s at 6-2, though he’s a few places behind him in the rankings at No.13.
UFC Fight Night 113 will also feature rising Scottish star Stevie Ray’s next fight against Paul Felder as well as Neil Seery’s retirement fight against Alexandre Pantoja.
