A welterweight fight between Hector Lombard and Dong Hyun Kim is rumored to have been targeted by the UFC for a Fight Night event in China on August 23rd.
Just the other day Lombard had called out the high-flying Matt Brown, but it seems the promotion has other plans for the former Bellator middleweight champion who’s currently ranked No.7 in the welterweight division after wins over Nate Marquardt and Jake Shields.
Kim is not far behind him at No.9 in the division and is currently enjoying a four-fight winning streak in the Octagon that’s saw him break out of his former shell as a grinding wrestler, with his last two victories coming by way of knockout against Erick Silva and John Hathaway.
Don’t be surprised if the South Korean reverts back to his former style in this fight though, with Lombard being a notoriously heavy hitter. both men are also high-level Judo players so that will add an extra dimension to this encounter.
This event will be the UFC’s second visit to China this year, having already been to Macau back in March for the Kim Vs Hathaway Fight Night event which aired on UFC Fight Pass, and it’s likely that this one will also air on the subscription service too.
Asian fans will also be getting a Fight Night event in Japan in September as well as the UFC looks to grow their brand in the region.
