Two fighters Who were conspicious by their absence at the UFC 235 press conference yesterday were Holly Holm and Aspen Ladd.
It turns out that there’s a good reason for that as the fight between them has apparently been scrapped.
“That fight’s not going to happen,” Dana White told reporters at the presser. “That’s why they’re not up here.”
And it’s not a case of the fight just being moved to another event either.
“We’re working on another fight for both of them.”
Aspen later reacted on Instagram to the unexpected announcement, and revealed that she had no idea the fight was off until White stated it at the presser.
“I signed to fight Holly Holm on 12/27/18. I’m ready to go, and am finding out this information, just now, like everyone else. I don’t know why Holly and her team have now backed out. Sorry everyone, this sucks, hopefully I have some good news to share soon. #thisblows #fightsoff #butwhy?”
There has been some speculation that perhaps Holm could instead be heading into a title shot against Amanda Nunes, and as it happens the two-division champion posted a smiley face on her Twitter account after the news of the fight breaking down emerged.
