Ian McCall Vs John Lineker In Talks For Potential 125lb Title Eliminator

The UFC are looking to put together a fight between Ian ‘Uncle Creepy’ McCall and John Lineker, a fight with potential title implications at 125lbs according to the UFC Tonight show.

McCall defeated Brad Pickett by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 46 in Ireland last month, extending his current winning run to two fights which leaves him in a strong position at No.3 on the official UFC flyweight rankings.

There was some raised eyebrows when current No.8 ranked Chris Cariaso was given the next shot at Demetrious Johnson’s title just days before McCall Vs Pickett fought, but the fact that McCall has already fought ‘Mighty Mouse’ twice, posting a draw and a loss, probably counted against him on this occasion.

The No.7 ranked Linker is another fighter who some pundits believe should have earned a title fight ahead of Cariaso given that he’s won five of his last six UFC bouts, including his latest TKO victory against Alptekin Özkiliç in July which earned ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors.

While both men may have been overlooked this time, there’s an excellent chance that the winner of their upcoming encounter will fight for the belt against the winner of Johnson Vs Cariaso, a fight which takes place at UFC 177 later this month.

The fight won’t happeen right away as McCall has a broken hand resulting from his last fight which requires surgery, but he hopes to return before the end of the year to face Lineker.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
