Ian ‘Uncle Creepy’ McCall has announced that he’ll be returning to action against Justin Scoggins at UFC 201 in Atlanta, Georgia on July 30th.
McCall has been plagued by injuries over the years, and just recently he indicated that he wasn’t sure if he’d ever fight again, stating that “my body’s broken,” while also implying that financially the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze.
However, just a few days ago on MMAjunkie radio he made a plea, saying, “Someone, please motivate me to get in shape and fight.”
Apparently something has motivated him in the days since, as he’s now accepted a fight with Scoggins for what will be his first fight since January of 2015 when he lost to John Lineker by unanimous decision, snapping a two-fight winning streak and leaving him placed at No.5 on the flyweight rankings.
In Scoggins he’s facing a younger, up and coming talent who’s coming off wins over Josh Sampo and Ray Borg, and has an overall 4-2 record in the UFC to date.
It’s a risky move for McCall to return as the 31 year-old really has had some serious injuries to contend with, including the fact that he has two bulging discs in his neck, has had multiple surgeries on his shoulder, and up until recently was still experiencing numbness in his arm – not to mention the fact that he’s fractured his hands numerous times among other ailments.
McCall Vs Scoggins joins a UFC 201 card that’s set to be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley, while flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson takes on Wilson Reis in the co-main event of the evening.
