If Carlos Condit Can’t Fight GSP Next He Wants Martin Kampmann Instead

If all goes according to plan welterweight interim champion Carlos Condit will finally get his chance to fight Georges St.Pierre for the ‘real’ belt in November, but if GSP’s current rehab from knee surgery results in him not being ready in time Condit already has another potential opponent in mind.

“If it turns out Georges can’t fight in November, most likely, I will fight somebody else,” Condit told Inside MMA. “I really wanna fight Georges. I really wanna unify the belts, but there’s also some other guys that I would like to fight as well. You know, Martin Kampmann’s the only guy that I’ve lost to in the UFC, the only guy I’ve lost to in about the last six years, so I would definitely like to avenge that loss.”

That fight was in fact Condit’s first in the UFC after moving over from the WEC in 2009 where he had been the defending champion. It was an extremely close fight – so much so that it ended in split decision.

Since then Condit has been on fire, racking up five straight victories against the likes of Jake Ellenberger, Rory MacDonald and most recently Nick Diaz, while Kampmann has had a slightly more mixed 5-3 run, but has been in a rich vein of form over the past year, also defeating Ellenberger along with Thiago Alves and Rick Story.

Therefore, in the worst case scenario that GSP isn’t ready in time then there’s certainly a compelling case for Condit Vs Kampmann II to be made instead.
