Former middleweight champion Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza and former Strikeforce Challengers graduate Roger Bowling will both appear on the recently announced Strikeforce: Rousey Vs Kaufman event’s main card on August 18th.
‘Jacare’ will take on Derek Brunson who’s perfect 9-0 career record was finally broken just a couple of weeks ago by Kendall Grove at SHOFights 20.
Given that loss he might seem a slightly strange choice for Souza who’s a higher profile fighter looking to put together a winning run to get himself back into title contention, but there aren’t a whole lot of other options with Tim Kennedy already scheduled for fight current champion Luke Rockhold, and in all fairness Brunson is still 3-0 inside the Strikeforce cage.
Meanwhile, Roger Bowling will look to build on his current two fight winning run for the promotion when he faces Tarec Saffiedine who is also undefeated in his last couple of bouts under the Strikeforce banner.
This is a solid bit of matchmaking, and with Strikeforce’s welterweight division being relatively threadbare at this moment in time, the winner will be in a good spot to start pushing for a title shot.
Update:
Just after this article was written further news emerged about the August fight card with Ovince St.Preux now also on-board to fight T.J Cook at the show in San Diego.
