A welterweight fight between Jake Ellenberger and Tarec Saffiedine will headline ‘UFC Fight Night 34’ on January 4th.
The UFC’s first event of 2014 will also mark their debut in Singapore, their first foray into the Southeast Asian market.
Ellenberger is coming off an underwhelming performance in a loss to Rory MacDonald in July, but nonetheless, he’s still considered the 4th ranked contender at welterweight thanks to an overall 8-3 record in the UFC that’s seen him defeat the likes of Nate Marquardt, Diego Sanchez and Jake Shields.
Saffiedine won Strikeforce’s welterweight title in their last ever show, defeating Nate Marquardt by unanimous decision to go four fights unbeaten.
He’s suffered a number of injury problems since then which forced him to pull out of a previously scheduled bout, and so he’s yet to make his UFC debut.
That means it’ll have been a full year since he last fought when he faces Ellenberger in January.
