Jessica Andrade not only beat a tough opponent in Amanda Lemos tonight in Las Vegas, but also made history by claiming the first ever standing arm-triangle in the history of the UFC.
Round One:
The main event is underway in Las Vegas.
Andrade misses on a leg kick. Lemos feels out with the jab. Leg kick for Andrade. Now a low kick from Lemos.
Another inside leg kick from Andrade. Nice calf kick from Lemos. Now threatening with a punch and a kick upstairs.
More cautious start from Andrade than usual. Inside leg kick from Andrade and then follows with one upstairs.
Head kick attempt from Lemos and then a couple of hard punches. Calf kick from Lemos almost knocks Andrade off-balance.
Jumping front kick to the body from Andrade. Push kick from Lemos is almost caught and Andrade drives forward.
Andrade drives into the clinch under fire and sinks in a standing arm triangle. Lemos looks uncomfortably immediately in this position and is having hard time breaking free. She turns her back against the cage, but then has to tap out, slumping to the mat as Andrade lets go at 3.13mins of the opening round.
So, it’s been a main card filled with quick submission finishes and that one from Andrade was particularly impressive – the first ever standing arm triangle stoppage in UFC history!
