Joanna Jędrzejczyk is winning fans hearts and minds ahead of her UFC 185 woman’s strawweight title fight with Carla Esparza at UFC 185 this weekend with her adorable Polish accent, outgoing, friendly personality (with everyone other than her opponent!), uunflappable self belief and killer striking instincts inside the Octagon.
There’s only one problem – no one outside of her native Poland seems to be able to pronounce her last name properly!
To hammer the point home MMAjunkie spoke to a number of fighters to see if they knew how to say it. Needless to say this did not go well.
Spare a thought for us poor reporters who’ll be writing up her fight live on Saturday night though.
With not even a catchy nickname to cling onto, rest assured this writer will be sticking to good ol’ fashioned ‘Joanna’ on fight night.
