The UFC are headed to Ledyard, Conneticut on September 5th for UFC Fight Night 50 and the first bout to be announced for the event is a lightweight tussle between Joe Lauzon and Michael Chiesa.
Lauzon bounced back from a two-fight losing streak with a decision win against Mac Danzig back in December. He’s now gearing up to make his first appearance in the Octagon this year and it’s just in the nick of time as he’s barely holding on to a spot on the UFC lightweight rankings at No.15.
Former TUF winner Chiesa is one of a group of fighters who’d like to take Lauzon’s spot on the rankings and he’s picked up two wins in a row recently and is currently 4-1 in the Octagon.
Lauzon will be one of his toughest fights to date though along with Jorge Masvidal who handed him the only loss of his career to date, so this is another chance for him to prove that he’s good enough to take the next step up the ladder.
Lauzon Vs Chiesa is the only fight announced for the show at the Foxwood casino and at this stage it’s unclear whether it’ll serve as the main event or not.
Perhaps the most noteworthy thing about this card so far is that it’ll take place on a Friday night in direct competition with Bellator 123 which also takes place that evening just 10 miles down the road at the Mohegun Sun arena.
