A bantamweight fight between John Dodson and Jimmie Rivera has been announced for UFC 228, which will take place on September 8th, by as yet does not have a location attached to it.
These are two talented fighters, but their form of late has been markedly different despite being within touch distance of each other in the 135lb rankings – Dodson at No.7, Rivera at No.5.
The 33-year-old Dodson has been alternating between wins and losses consistently for the past three years, going 4-3 during that period.
Most recently, ‘The Magician’ notched up a split decision victory over Pedro Munhoz, following on from a split decision loss to one of the decision’s leading contenders, Marlon Moraes.
As for Rivera, the 28-year-old saw a 20-fight winning streak come to a sudden halt against the aforementioned Moraes earlier this month by way of a stunning 33 second head kick knockout.
Prior to that, ‘El Terror’ had racked up five victories since joining the UFC, defeating the likes of Thomas Almeida, Urijah Faber and Iuri Alcantara along the way.
Dodson Vs Rivera is the second major fight to be attached to the UFC 228 event, with a lightweight battle between Yair Rodriguez and Zabit MagomedSharipov also having recently been announced.
