A rematch between heavyweight stars Junior dos Santos and Stefan Struve will headline the UFC Fight Night 105 event in Halifax, Canada on February 19th.
You have to go back as far as UFC 95 in 2009 to find the first meeting between these two, and it was all over the in the blink of an eye, with JDS TKO’ing the debuting Dutchman in just 54 seconds.
There’s been a lot of water under the bridge since then, with Dos Santos going on a long winning streak that would eventually lead to him becoming heavyweight champion in 2011, then losing the belt in late 2012.
Since then Dos Santos has been alternating between wins and losses, though his latest decision victory over Ben Rothwell appeared to indicate a return to form for the 32 year-old with a slick display of striking.
Struve’s career hasn’t reached the same heights as his opponent, but nonetheless he’s been one of the most active fighters on the heavyweight roster and had his hand raised in 12 of his 18 bouts in the UFC, including back-to-back victories heading into this fight.
Currently ranked No.4 in the division, Dos Santos would insert himself back into the title picture with a win here, while the No.11 ranked Struve would claim one of the biggest victories of his career and step firmly back into the division’s top 10.
