A botched weight cut has led to Justin Scoggins being forced out of his UFC 201 fight with Ian McCall this weekend at UFC 201 in Atlanta, Georgia.
“We just had to make a horrible, disappointing call,” Scoggins father Chris told bloodyelbow.com. “Justin could not get below 132.5 pounds. He was all good and his body just stopped allowing the weight to come off. No sweating, nothing. That’s too much [of a] weight difference for a catchweight so Justin is out. This is horrible.”
with the UFC 201 weigh-ins taking place later today there’s just not enough time for the UFC to find a replacement opponent for them to find a replacement opponent for McCall, so it appears that he’ll also now be removed from the card.
‘Uncle Creepy’ is trying to remain level-headed about the situation however, despite being disappointed by the news.
“As much as I like Justin, I want to be a (expletive) and say something, but whatever,” McCall told MMajunkie.com. “Weight cutting isn’t good for you, and if you don’t do it right – and he’s young, he’s probably stupid about it. But he’s a good fighter, so hopefully this won’t tarnish his name too much.
“It’s weird that I feel bad for him, but this weight cutting (expletive) is horrible for you. I’m just getting it done because I’m getting paid.”
Saturday night’s UFC 201 event now proceeds with 11 fights, and it remains to be seen which of the evening’s prelim fights will now be moved up to the main card – though Ross Pearson Vs Jorge Masvidal would appear to be the best choice they could make on short notice.
