Karine Silva got the better of the wrestling and ground game against Ariane Lipski tonight at UFC On ESPN 55 to earn a unanimous decision victory.

Round One:

high kick attempt from Silva that’s caught by Lipski, but can’t work a takedown off of it so they go back to striking.

Body kick for Silva. Now one from Lipski. Inside leg kick and a body kick for Silva. Now another inside leg kick.

Punch from Silva to disguise a takedown attempt and is able to land it close to the center of the Octagon.

Lipski kicks Silva off to get up and now it’s her who stands over Silva landing kicks to her legs. She goes back into Silva’s guard and remains there for the remainder of the round.

Round Two:

Silva misses with an immediate jumping switch kick but does lands a calf kick. Body kick for Lipski. Body kick for Silva. Kick to the thigh from Lipski.

Inside leg kick for Silva. High kick attempt from Lipski and then back to the leg kick. Another kick from Lipski is caught by Silva, but Lipski punches her way out.

Silva with a big takedown. She’s in half-guard and lands a few elbows. Now she passes to side control. She stays patient and tries to get into the mount, but doesn’t quite get it and is put back into half-guard.

Scramble now and Lipski goes for a leg lock. She can’t quite get it though and Silva gets away and stands, looking to land some leg kicks, while Lipski is kicking from her back.

Lipski able to stand, but eats a body kick in the process. Silva straight into the clinch, gets the back and drags Silva down. Slightly awkward position for Silva to work from and she just works to maintain control for the remainder of the round.

Round three:

Leg kick for Lipski. Silva almost catches a kick, but then eats a punch. Lipski pressuring. Body kick for Silva.

Body kick for Lipski. Some missed strikes here. Silva catches a kick and drives Lipski over to the cage, then moves around to her back. Silva trying to break her base to get the fight to the mat, but Lipski defending for now. Grazing knee upstairs from Lipski.

They jockey for position against the cage now and then get back to striking range. Jab from Lipski, Body kick from Silva.

Another body kick from Lipski. Another one from her. Silva works into the clinch, but Lispki quickly reverses against the cage.

Nice trip takedown from Silva to end up in Lipski’s guard. Silva able to get to the back and gets the body triangle in as the fight draws to a close.

Decision:

Quite a closely matched fight then, but Silva got several takedowns and enjoyed the better spells of control on the mat to earn a unanimous decision victory (30-27, 29-28 x2).
