A welterweight match-up between Kelvin Gastelum and Jorge Masvidal has been announced for UFC Fight Night 98, aka the TUF: Latin America Season 3 Finale in Mexico City on November 5th.

Gastelum is coming off the biggest win of his career to date, defeating former champion Johny Hendricks by unanimous decision at the historic UFC 200 event last month.

Despite having lost out by split decision to Neil Magny in his previous fight, his latest victory helped propel him to No.5 on the 170lb rankings, not far off of title contention.

With that in mind, Masvidal perhaps isn’t the fighter he’d have had in mind to face next, as he’s currently unranked in the division, yet still presents a serious threat.

Masvidal has spent much of his career at lightweight, but moved up to try his luck at welterweight a year ago, and has since gone 2-2 in the division.

Most recently he defeated another lightweight making the step up, Ross Pearson, winning by unanimous decision, and ‘Gamebred’ will now be hoping to use that as a springboard to bigger and better things.

Gastelum Vs Masvidal joins a card that’s set to be headlined by a crucial lightweight encounter between two top contenders, former champion Rafael dos Anjos and Tony Ferguson.
