Kevin Holland has been forced out of his upcoming rematch with Kyle Daukaus at UFC Fight Night 197 on November 13th due to an undisclosed injury.
“Hey Kevin Holland, sorry to hear about the injury,” Daukaus wrote upon learning off the call-off. “Heal up. I’ll see you in February, but first I’m gonna handle some business.”
The pair had initially fought at UFC Fight Night 193 on October 2nd, with an accidental head clash in the opening round appearing to flash KO Holland, though he then recovered quickly and fought on without being stopped by the ref, before quickly being submitted by Daukaus. After some deliberation the ref declared the fight a no-contest however due to the earlier incident.
With that in mind some eyebrows were raised when the rematch was put together barely a month after Holland’s apparent knockout. At this stage it’s not clear exactly why Holland has now withdrawn, but perhaps it’s for the best to give him more time to recover from that blow.
By the sounds of things Dauakaus intends to fight someone else instead now on short notice, but there’s no word on who that might be yet.
Regardless, UFC Fight Night 197 continues with a card that is expected to be headlined by a major featherweight clash as former champion Max Holloway goes up against Yair Rodriguez.
