Khalil Rountree rocked Anthony Smith more than once tonight at UFC Fight Night 233 with huge punches on his way to a big TKO finish in the final round.
Round One:
Rountree circles quickly on the outside to start. He unleashes a fast left hand but it comes up short. However he then does land a one-two.
Hard kick from Smith. Heavy leg kick lands for Rountree. Right hand from Smith. Grazing hook for Rountree. Rountree works into the clinch against the cage. Heavy elbow from him as he opts to back out.
Powerful punches from Rountree as Smith keeps his guard high. Fast left hand from Rountree and then a right that also splits the guard and Smith already has some blood around the nose and eye.
Heavy left hand from Smith. leg kick for Rountree. Rangey right hand connects for Smith. Push kick from him. Thumping body kick and a left hand behind it from Rountree.
Jab for Smith. Right hand for Smith but eats a heavier counter from Rountree. Rountree pressing forward as the round comes to a close.
Round Two:
Rountree pumps out the jab. Another heavy body kick from him. Smith attempts to clinch up, but Rountree able to turn him into the cage. Rountree lands and Smith connects with a big elbow too as they break free.
Smith throws punches but then eats a big hook that has him wobbled. For some reason Rountree opts not to go for a finish and Smith gets his legs back under him and tries to go for a takedown that doesn’t pay off.
Punch for Smith and just gets is head out the way of a counter. Fast right hand from Rountree lands. Smith still trying to press forward though. Punch lands for Smith and Rountree fires off a one-two in response.
Solid front kick for Smith to the body. Straight left for ROuntree. jab from Smith. Left for Rountree. Rountree attempts a head kick but it’s blocked.
Body kick for Smith. Right hand for Smith but he keeps getting countered by Rountree’s fast, hard punches.
Head kick attempt from Smith is blocked. Solid straight right for Smith. Jab for Rountree and misses big on a hook. Inside low kick for Rountree.
Round Three:
Straight left for Rountree. Now a leg kick. Another kick to the thigh from Rountree. Again he lands the kick. Right hand for Smith. He lands a left too. Uppercut from Rountree.
Huge uppercut from Rountree followed by a left hook and Smith is on badly wobbled legs again as he staggers backwards and falls to the mat. The ref has rightly seen enough and that’s it, Rountree wins via TKO at 0.56mins of the third round.
