Lando Vannata outstruck Yancy Medeiros for three rounds tonight at UFC Fight Night 167 to earn himself a unanimous decision victory.
Round One:
Leg kick for Medeiros. Looping right hand for Vannata. Light leg kick for Medeiros. Vannata lands a one-two.
Glancing left hook from Medeiros. Head kick attempt from Vannata and then follows up with punches.
Leg kick for Vannata. Push kick to the body for Vannata. Right hand gets through for him now. Step-in left hand from Vannata and lands a few more punches behind it.
Jab for Medeiros. Punch in return from Vannata and then an uppercut for Medeiros. Leg kick for him. He gets another one.
Overhand right for Vanatta. Now a straight right and a leg kick. Body kick for Medeiros almost caught by Vannata.
Body kick for Medeiros. Inside leg kick for Vannata. Glancing right for Medeiros. Body kick again from Medeiros.
Medeiros with a push kick attempt and punch, but Vannata counters with a flurry of punches. Leg kick for Medeiros and a high kick from Vannata to end the round.
Round Two:
Push kick from Vannata. Inside leg kick. Another lands. Right hand gets through from Medeiros. Solid body kick from Vannata. Now a clinch situation and Vannata almost manages to trip Medeiros.
Back in striking range and Medeiros lands a straight. Now a body kick that’s partially caught. Jab for Medeiros. Hook apiece there and then Medeiros puts together a couple of punches in a row.
One-two from Vanatta while Medeiros also connects. Vannata pumping out the jab repeatedly. Medeiros connects with a punch.
Jab again for Medeiros from range. Solid left hand for him. Another left from Medeiros and Vannata counters. Hook lands for Vannata and then another.
Sudden takedown attempt from Vannata. It doesn’t pay off at the first attempt and he swings around to the back, but still can’t make it work.
Straight right for Medeiros. Leg kick for Vannata. Nice punches from Medeiros. Body strike lands for Vannata and Medeiros definitely felt that, but waves him on anyway. Hard punch to the body from Medeiros.
Round Three:
Vannata surges forward at the start of the round and lands a nice punch. Spinning kick connects for Vannata.
Medeiros misses with a spinning kick to the body. Snapping kick to the body from Vannata. Body punch for him now.
Inside leg kick from Vannata. Another lands. Jab from Medeiros. Leg kick for him, but stumbles on it. Vannata lands a punch.
Outside leg kick from Vannata and Medeiros responds. Body kick for Vannata. Medeiros holding onto Vannata’s glove and lands a punch.
left hands for Vannata. Uppercut in close from Medeiros. Now a body punch. Inside leg kick for Vannata. Another kick to the leg. A third lands. Now a spinning kick that misses.
Solid jab for Medeiros, but then Vannata tries for a takedown. He doesn’t get it and Medeiros lands an elbow.
Spinning kick to the body from Medeiros. Left hook from Medeiros now, but Vannata blasts him with two big punches.
Medeiros hurt there, but quickly starts wading forward again landing punches as the round comes to a close.
Decision:
A close fight here, but Vannata often seemed to have the edge with his footwork and more accurate striking, leading to a unanimous decision victory (30-27 x3).
