After appearing to be on the verge of hanging up his gloves for good in recent times, it seems that former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold is now looking to get back to business in the Octagon.
According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Rockhold told him that he is looking to come back because, “I felt like it.”
Rockhold had previously stated back in October of last year that it was “very” possible that he may never fight again after an attempt to reboot his career at light-heavyweight failed at the first hurdle due to a second round KO loss against Yan Blachowicz in July of last year.
That marked the second fight in a row that Rockhold had been knocked out, with Yoel Romero having also done so in their interim middleweight title fight back in February of 2018.
However, Rockhold make have taken inspiration from Chris Weidman’s win over Omari Akhmedov this past weekend as he too had been on a tough losing streak that included a failed attempt to move up to 205lbs before getting back in the win column.
Despite the victory Weidman still didn’t look at his best, and given that Rockhold already defeated him by TKO to lift the middleweight title back in 2015, he might now fancy his chances of taking him on again.
Indeed, Rockhold told Helwani that a rematch with Weidman is on his mind, though no talks have yet taken place with the UFC regarding the bout.
Nonetheless, Rockhold is already planning to split his training camp between South Florida and San Jose as he looks to get back to full fitness and ready to fight before the end of the year.
