Lyoto Machida will attempt to dig himself out of a three-fight losing slump when he fights Eryk Anders in the main event at UFC Fight Night 125 in Belem, Brazil on February 3rd.
The former light-heavyweight champion has had a torrid time in the Octagon over the past few years, tasting defeat against Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romero and Derek Brunson, with the latter two coming by way of knockout.
To make matters worse, the 39-year-old also served an 18-month suspension during that period after admitting to having unwittingly taken a banned performance enhancing drug.
Now Machida faces an up-and-coming prospect in Anders, who is unbeaten in his 10-fight professional career to date, two of which came inside the Octagon against Rafael Natal and Markus Perez a well as brief stints in the Bellator and LFA promotions.
Immediately after has last win, Anders called out Machida and the UFC have granted him his wish on a card that’s also set to feature Valentina Shevchenko in her first fight at flyweight going up against promotional newcomer Priscila Cachoeira.
