The UFC are beginning to assemble what promises to be a major fight card for ‘UFC On FOX Sports 1’ in August with a welterweight clash between Matt Brown and Thiago Alves having been verbally agreed.
Brown is currently enjoying the best run of his long UFC career, stringing together a five fight unbeaten run that’s included two big knockout wins on FOX.
Meanwhile, Alves is coming back after taking a year out to regroup and refocus after a disappointing spell in the Octagon that produced just two wins in six fights – a far cry from the seven fight winning streak he produced to secure a title fight with GSP back in 2009.
Having said that all of the 29 year-old’s losses during that dip in form came against top level competition in St.Pierre, Jon Fitch, Rick Story and Martin Kampmann and he’s still highly regarded as one of the best technical strikers in the division.
It’s hard to see how there won’t be fireworks in a match-up between two strikers so it seems like a good choice for the FS1 event which will air during the channel’s opening night launch on August 17th.
