Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua Vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Targeted For UFC 161

Another light-heavyweight showdown has been added to UFC 161 on June 15th with Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira set to lock horns for the second time in their careers at the event in Winnepeg, Canada.

‘Shogun’ and ‘Lil Nog’ originally fought in a classic encounter all the way back at the PRIDE: Critical Countdown event in 2005, with Rua coming out on top by unanimous decision on that occasion.

More recently ‘Shogun’ is coming off a defeat to Alexander Gustafsson on FOX at the tail end of last year, leaving him 2-2 since losing his 205lb title to Jon Jones in early 2011.

Nogueira is also 2-2 in his last four fights, but he has momentum heading into this match-up after back-to-back wins against Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans.

‘Shogun’ Vs Nogueira joins another major 205lb clash between Rashad Evans and Dan Henderson on UFC 161’s main card and there’s certainly a possibility that the winner of these two bouts will then fight next time out.
