Brazilian legend Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua will fight former TUF winner Corey Anderson at UFC 198 in Curitiba, Brazil on May 14th.
‘Shogun’ returns to action after defeating Antonio Rogerio Nogueira last time out at UFC 190 back in August of 2015. That result brought an end to a two-fight losing streak for the former champion.
The 34 year-old Rua had been lined up to fight Rashad Evans at UFC On FOX 19 on April 16th, but a flare up of an old knee injury led to him being pulled from that fight and he now has an extra month to recover before UFC 198.
Anderson has compiled a solid record at 205lbs so far since winning TUF 19, going 5-1 overall in the Octagon so far and is currently enjoying a three-fight winning streak that most recently included a decision win over Tom Lawlor at UFC 196 earlier this month.
The 26 year-old Anderson is currently ranked No.12 in the division, four places below ‘Shogun’, and a win over the veteran in the biggest fight of his career so far could help secure this rising star a spot in the top 10.
‘Shogun’ Vs Anderson will join a UFC 198 card that’s headlined by a heavyweight title encounter between current champion Fabricio Werdum and Stipe Miocic, while Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza Vs Vitor Belfort takes the co-main event spot.
