A light-heavyweight fight between Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua and Sam Alvey has been set for UFC Fight Night 164 in Sao Paulo on November 16th.
At this late stage in his career, Shogun has actually managed to rediscover his form after a tough spell of losses and has now won four of his last five fights.
Along the way he’s earned wins over the likes of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Corey Anderson, along with TKO victories against Gian Villante and Tyson Pedro.
Now he’ll go up against Alvey, who moved up to light-heavyweight in 2018 and got off to a good start with back-to-back wins over Marcin Prachino and Gian Villante.
However, Alvey has saw a slump in form since then, losing three fights in a row against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Jimmy Crute and Klidson Abreu.
Shogun vs. Alvey joins a UFC Fight Night 164 card that is set to be headlined by Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza as he moves up to light-heavyweight for the first time to fight Jan Blachowicz, while other fights of note include Sergio Moraes vs. James Krause in the co-main event along with Francisco Trinaldo vs. Bobby Green.
