Melvin Guillard Pulled From WSOF 20 After Failing To Provide Medicals

Melvin Guillard has been pulled from  his co-main event fight at WSOF 20 this coming Friday night after the promotion failed to receive the fighters medicals prior to his scheduled bout with Ozzy Dugulbgov.

Guillard appears to have become disgruntled with the way he’s being treated by WSOF recently and had indicated in recent interviews that he wanted to leave the promotion.  He’d also refused to do media for their upcoming show and hasn’t been returning their calls, so it appears that there may be more to his failure to provide a medical for Friday’s show than just a simple misunderstanding.

‘The Young Assassin’ has failed to set the world alight since joining the WSOF promotion last year after being released from the UFC.

He missed weight for his debut against Gesais Cavalcante, but did earn a TKO victory, before missing weight again for a title fight against Justin Gaethje which he would go on to lose by split decision.

Guillard has claimed that he’d like to return to the UFC, but with just two wins in his last eight fights in the Octagon and his poor conduct since being released it’s hard to imagine that the sport’s leading promotion would be eager to reaquire his services at this juncture.

With Guillard out, WSOF have now rejigged their Friday night line-up with his opponent Dugulbgov now set to face Lucas Montoya instead while Nick Newell Vs Joe Condon now serves as the co-main event for the show which will be headlined by David Branch Vs Ronny Markes.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
