Metamoris 4 Results

Despite warnings from the Nevada State Athletic Commission that he’d be in breach of his recent two-year suspension and face heavy fines if he competed at the Metamoris 4 grappling event last night, the recently retired Chael Sonnen did show up for his headlining match with Andre Galvao.

As expected it didn’t go his way though. Galvao was always the favorite here and that was proven to be justified when he tapped out Sonnen with a rear-naked choke, but to his credit, he lasted fourteen minutes with the decorated BJJ ace, using his wrestling to maintain top control to keep his opponent in check.

Once Galvao took his back and locked in the body triangle he was exposed though and it was only a matter of time before he had to tap out.

“They tested me, they cleared me, they hired me, they fired me, they drag me through the mud, and I’m still the toughest SOB on two feet,” a defiant Sonnen said after his loss.

UFC heavyweight fighter Josh Barnett faired better in the co-main event though, dominating multiple time ADCC winner Dean Lister before producing a side choke finish from scarf position with just 15 seconds of their bout remaining.

This was the first time that former UFC fighter Lister had been tapped out in a grappling competition in 15 years and resulted in Barnett being crowned Metamoris’ heavyweight champion.
