Mickey Gall Submits Sage Northcutt In 2nd Round At UFC On FOX 22

Mickey Gall got the better of his rival Sage Northcutt tonight at UFC On FOX 22, surving a knockdown in the second round and then delivering one of his own before wrapping things up by submission.

Round One:

Both fighters circling each other to start the fight. They suddenly exchange in close and Gall transitions into a takedown attempt and lands it.

Northcutt thinking about some rubber guard action from his back, but then decides against it. Gall almost out of half guard, but not quite.

He continues working and after failing to move to mount he nicely slides through to side control. Half the reound remaining and Northcutt explodes attempting to get back to his feet.

Before he can do so Gall grabs a guillotine choke. Northcutt stays patient though and is able to break free and remain on top. Gall trying for a leg lock and so Northcutt opts to back away back to his feet.

He stands over Gall and the two exchange a few words and kicks before they stand back up.

The two clash with strikes in the middle of the cage. Gall catches a Northcutt kick and puts him on his back again in the final minute of the round.

A few ground and pound strikes land for Gall. Northcutt thinking about a submission, but Gall is wise to it and transitions into full mount as the round ends.

Round Two:

Jab lands for Gall. Both men with right hands. Big hook lands for Northcutt that drops Gall. Northcutt taunts his opponent, but Gall gets back to his feet and seems ok.

Soon after Northcutt lands another big hook and that’ll really get Gall’s attention and he’s now bleeding from a cut near his right eye. They look to exchange again and this time it’s Gall who lands a thunderous right hook and drops Northcutt hard.

Gall follows him down to the mat and takes Northcutt’s back before sinking in a rear-naked choke. He gets it under his rivals chin and that’s it, Northcutt taps out and Gall wins the battle of the young guns.
