On the latest edition of the UFC Tonight show on FOX Sports 1 a woman’s 135lb match-up between top 3 contenders Miesha Tate and Sara McMann was made official for UFC 183 on January 31st in Las Vegas.
Tate is coming off back-to-back unanimous decision wins over Liz Carmouche and Rin Nakai in her 2014 campaign. There had been some talk that the current No.2 ranked Tate could be set to face current No.8 Bethe Correia who’s been making waves in the division recently, but despite some back and forth between the two on Twitter it seems the UFC has other plans for her.
That comes in the shape of former Olympic silver medalist McMann who’s currently positioned just once place behind her on the rankings at No.3 after a split decision win over Lauren Murphy last time out.
That followed on from a disappointing 66 second title fight defeat against Ronda Rousey courtesy of a knee to the body. It was McMann’s first defeat in her nine fight career to date and as you might expect she still feels she could put on a a better showing against the dominant champion if she’s able to fight her way to another shot at the belt.
Tate and McMann find themselves placed on what’s set to be one of the biggest MMA events of 2015, with UFC 183 the destination for the middleweight superfight between returning stars Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz.
