Nick Diaz returns from his marijuana suspension in February of 2013 and another of the sport’s ‘bad boys’ Josh Koscheck appears to have positioned himself as the front-runner to face him on his return.
Dana White has indicated that Diaz will have to fight his way back to a title shot at 170lbs when he returns despite current champ Georges St.Pierre having made it clear earlier in the year that he’s desperate to fight him, and so the outspoken Koscheck stated on Twitter last week that he’d like to welcome the Stockton native back to the Octagon.
Diaz’s manager Cesar Gracie took note of Koscheck’s interest and he tells the TATAME site that he likes the idea of that fight, more-so than a potential scrap with Demian Maia who also expressed an interest on taking him on a couple of weeks ago.
“Personally, I like the option of him fighting Koscheck, a guy who is very popular here in the United States, has great public recognition, everyone knows who he is, especially here,” Gracie said. “Demian Maia is a great fighter, I think it would also be a great opponent, but here in America it is not as popular as Koscheck. So I think Nick probably will face Josh Koscheck in his return to the Octagon.”
“I am DOWN! Don’t be scared Homie!” Koscheck wrote on Twitter after hearing Gracie’s response.
Koscheck is hoping the fight will go down on the UFC’s traditional Superbowl weekend card in February, but there’s no word yet on whether the UFC are as interested in putting together this match-up as he and Gracie appear to be, so let’s wait and see what happens.
If it does take place then there should be a great build-up to it as there’s not a chance in hell that these two are going to get along and play nice.
