Myles Jury has decided to drop down to the featherweight division and will immediately head into a challenging match-up with Charles Oliveira at UFC On FOX 17 in Orlando on December 19th.
It’s an interesting decision by the 26 year-old as he’s actually still ranked No.9 in the lightweight division at this moment in time.
‘Fury’ is coming off a unanimous decision loss against current title challenger Donald Cerrone at UFC 182 back in January, but prior to that he was previously unbeaten with a 15-0 record and six victories inside the Octagon over the likes of Michael Johnson, Takanori Gomi and Diego Sanchez.
In Oliveira he faces one of the most exciting fighters on the roster, but the Brazilian is coming off a loss due to a freak injury early in his last fight with Max Holloway back in August where he somehow managed to injure his esophagus which resulted in the left side of his body being paralyzed for several hours.
‘Do Bronx’ has since admitted that at one stage he feared he’d be paralyzed for life, but thankfully he’s since recovered and is ready to put that scare behind him and get back into the Octagon.
Prior to that loss Oliveira was on a four-fight winning streak in the divison and is currently ranked at No.7 in the division, so there’s a lot at stake for both men heading into this intriguing match-up.
Jury Vs Oliveira joins a UFC On FOX 17 line-up that will be headlined by a lightweight title encounter as Rafael dos Anjos defends his title against Donald Cerrone, while Junior dos Santos takes on Alistair Overeem in the heavyweight co-main event.
