Nick Diaz has suffered an unspecificied injury that means he won’t be able to fight Leon Edwards in the co-main event of UFC 262 on May 15th.
However, the good news is that the injury is only minor and so the fight will just be postponed until a month later at UFC 263, which takes place on June 12th in Glendale, Arizona.
The only drawback for the two fighters is that they will no longer take co-main event honors as the UFC 263 card already features two title fights, with middleweight champion Israel Adesanya fighting Marvin Vettori and flyweight titleholder Deiveson Figueiredo rematching Brandon Moreno.
When the fight does eventually take place it’ll be Diaz’s first since his TKO doctor stoppage loss against Jorge Masvidal in their ‘BMF’ title fight back in November of 2019.
Edwards hasn’t been very active either in recent times, having spent over 18 months on the sidelines following a win over Rafael dos Anjos in July of 2019. When he did finally return in March of this year, Edwards fight with Belal Muhammad lasted barely more than a round before an accidental eyepoke left his opponent unable to continue, leading to a no-contest ruling.
Edwards had been winning the fight up until that point though and it extended his current unbeaten run to nine fights, leaving him ranked No.3 in the welterweight division heading into the bout against Diaz.
