A new report from the L.A. Times suggests that Nate Diaz is finally set to make his comeback against the in-form Dustin Poirier at UFC 230 in New York City on November 3rd.
The bout is expected to be officially confirmed later today at a special UFC conference prior to the UFC 227 weigh-ins in Los Angeles.
If so, this will be a major test for Diaz given that it’s now been two years since the 33-year-old ast stepped foot in the Octagon, losing out to Conor McGregor by majority decision in their money-spinning rematch at UFC 202 in Las Vegas that would go down as the most watched pay-per-view in UFC history.
Now he’ll be returning to fight one of the leading contenders at 155lb in Poirier, who has deservedly risen to the No.3 spot on the rankings after a run that’s seen him emerge with TKO victories against Anthony Pettis, Justin Gaethje and most recently Eddie Alvarez.
‘The Diamond’ had been hoping for a title shot next time out, but a fight with a big star like Diaz is the next big thing.
If it is confirmed then Diaz Vs Poirier would join a UFC 230 card that’s also expected to feature a rematch between Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman, Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza going up against David Branch and Yoel Romero fighting Paulo Costa, though the main event is still to be established at this time.
