UFC heavyweight veteran, Gabe Gonzaga is set to face Stipe Miocic at January 25th’s ‘UFC On FOX 10’ in Chicago.
Gonzaga is currently enjoying a new lease of life in the UFC after returning from a brief retirement in January. He has stayed busy since then, fighting four times in the Octagon and produced a 3-1 record in the process.
Most recently he’s shown an improvement in his striking which has lead to two knockout victories in a row over Dave Herman and Shawn Jordan.
Miocic is also enjoying a good run in the UFC of late, with a 4-1 record so far, including his biggest win to date over Roy Nelson last time out at UFC 161.
It was recently announced that ‘UFC On FOX 10’ will be headlined by a lightweight clash between former champion Ben Henderson and Josh Thomson.
Meanwhile, a fight between Thiago Silva and Ovince St.Preux has been made official for ‘UFC Fight Night 35’ in Georgia on January 15th.
Silva is finally showing signs of putting a rough patch in his career behind him, claiming back-to-back victories in 2013 against former Strikeforce champion Rafael ‘Feijao’ and Matt Hamill.
He did come in 3lbs overweight for his last fight though, perhaps a slight warning sign that the troubled fighter, who’s suffered some significant injuries and been suspended twice since 2011 for steroid and marijuana use, may still not be firing on all cylinders.
In St.Preux he faces a former Strikeforce standout who’s gone 2-o in the Octagon so far, including a first round knockout victory over Cody Donovan at UFC Fight Night 26 back in August.
Silva presents St.Preux’s toughest test since a fight with former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gegard Mousasi in late 2011 which he ended up losing by decision and this is his chance to really put himself on the map at 205lbs.
