A woman’s strawweight fight between Paige VanZant and Michelle Waterson will headline UFC On FOX 22 in Sacremento, California on December 17th.
Dana White announced the fight during an appearance on FOX Sports 1’s ‘UFC Tonight’ show.
The 22 year-old VanZant became known to a wider audience earlier this year when she finished in the runner-up spot on ‘Dancing With The Stars’.
However, she then went on to prove that she was still firmly focused on her fighting career when she returned to the UFC in style, knocking out Bec Rawlings with a spectacular jumping switch kick at UFC On FOX 21.
PVZ was just part of the main card on that occasion, but now the No.8 ranked 115lb contender takes a step up to main event the next FOX card in front of millions of viewers.
The more experienced Waterson will be looking to steal PVZ’s thunder though, after making a successul start to her UFC career with a third round submission win against Angela Megana in her debut at the TUF 21 Finale last year.
Waterson has been out of action since then with a knee injury, but the No.12 ranked contender and former Invicta FC atomweight champion will now head straight into the highest profile bout of her 17 fight career.
PVZ Vs Waterson will front a show that so far only has one other fight officially confirmed, with another young rising star Sage Northcutt set to fight Mickey Gall, who made a name for himself by defeating former WWE superstar CM Punk last time out.
