Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson has been fairly quiet recently since leaving the UFC, but he’s now hinting that a new fight announcement is imminent.
“It’s gonna feel good putting this chain back on…” Rampage Tweeted yesterday along with a picture of him holding the chain he wears during his fight entrances. “Big news coming real soon.”
‘Rampage’ fulfilled the final fight of his UFC contract back in January, losing to Glover Teixiera by decision – his third defeat in a row. He had made it clear prior to the bout that win or lose he was going to leave the promotion due to his belief that he wasn’t being treated well by the UFC and had been short-changed in his PPV earnings.
Given that the 34 year-old will likely be looking for a big payday there’s not a whole lot of options for him outside of the UFC so it’ll be interesting to see where he ends up.
Bellator looks like the current favorite with their CEO Bjorn Rebney having previously indicated some interest in signing him and there has been an unconfirmed rumor circulating in recent days that a deal had been struck.
Asian promotion ONE FC were seen as another potential destination for ‘Rampage’, and indeed a twitter reply to Rampage from their CEO Victor Cui saying that he was, “looking fwd to seeing u next month!” has lead to some believing that he had agreed to fight for them.
However, it turns out that Cui was merely referring to an unrelated event that the two men would both be attending next month.
the World Series Of Fighting promotion are an outside bet, but I’d question whether they’d be willing to pay the kind of money it would take to secure ‘Rampage’s’ services at this early stage in their development.
Of course he could also have patched up his differences with the UFC, but given the acrimonious nature of his recent departure I’d say that a deal with Bellator looks like being the best bet here.
