Ray Borg Dominates Rogerio Bontorin To Decision Win At UFC Fight Night 167

It was one way traffic for Ray Borg tonight at UFC Fight Night 167 as he completely controlled Rogerio Bontorin with his grappling from the first round to the last.

Round One:

Nice counter left hook from Bontorin in the first exchange of the bout. Left hand from Bontorin, but Borg flurries back and tries for a takedown. Bontorin shuts that down and presses Borg to the cage though.

Solid knee from Bontorin to the body. Another knee to the body in close. Trip from Bontorin, but doesn’t quite get Borg fully down. Now he’s shifting to Borg’s back and has to defend a sweep, then is back pressing Borg to the cage.

Borg swoops down looking for a takedown here and it’s stuffed at first, but Borg continues to drive through it and lands it nicely.

Bontorin stands, but Borg is still trying to work another takedown attempt. Bontorin defends, but Borg lands a punch and then gets him back to the mat.

Bontorin gets his back to the cage and Borg lands an elbow to the head as the round ends.

Round two

Borg straight into a single leg attempt and he’s working hard for this, but Bontorin is defending well. Borg adjusts his position and does get Bontorin to his knees and takes his back from there.

Bontorin standing up with Borg latched on securely to his back and hunting for a possible submission attempt, but soon gives up on that and continues to weight heavily on his opponent with over three minutes of the round remaining.

Punches from Borg and then a rear-naked choke attempt, but it’s more of a face crank for now. He lets go of that for now.

Borg starting to slide down and goes back to his feet, but stays tight to Bontorin and lands another takedown.

Borg in half-guard here and is looking to pass to side control, but Bontorin is defending for now and gets him back to full guard.

Borg landing a couple of elbows. Bontorin trying to get his legs up, but Borg shakes himself free of that and lands another elbow. Bontorin looking to stand and again Borg hops onto his back and rides out the remaining seconds of the round from there.

Round Three:

It’s the same story early in the third as Borg closes the distance, works for a takedown and lands it. Bontorin soon back upright, but Borg puts him down again.

Bontorin quickly back up and then down again. This pattern continues until Borg returns to latching onto his back as he stands. Borg landing body punches now.

Borg comes off his back and starts working hard for another takedown and with a little over 90 seconds remaining he gets it.

A couple of punches and elbows getting through for Borg as he works from in his opponent’s full guard.

Bontorin gets to his knees. Borg wearing heavily on him. He stands up, but Borg hoists him up of his feet and lands one final takedown before the round ends.

Decision:

Complete grappling domination for Borg here then and he emerges with a well earned unanimous decision victory (30-27 x2, 30-25).
