Ricardo Ramos Has Covid-19; Bill Algeo Fight At UFC On ESPN 22 Cancelled

Ricardo Ramos has been forced out of his fight with Bill Algeo at UFC On ESPN 22 this weekend after testing positive for Covid-19.

The fight had been scheduled to take place on the main card of the show, but has now been scrapped entirely due to it being too late to find Algeo a suitable replacement.

At this stage it’s unclear whether the UFC will now proceed with a five-fight main card or look to move up another bout from the prelims to make up the numbers.

Ramos had been heading into the fight off a TKO loss against Lerone Murphy last July, but holds a 5-2 record overall in the UFC to date after initially coming to the promotion’s attention via Dana White’s ‘Lookin’ For A Fight’ series.

As for Algeo, he had stepped in to make his debut as a late replacement against Ricardo Lamas last year and gave a good account of himself despite ultimately losing by unanimous decision, and he had since gone on to earn a victory over Spyke Carlyle.

Despite Ramos vs. Algeo being cancelled, UFC On ESPN 22 proceeds largely as planned, with a middleweight fight between Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gsstelum headlining, while Jeremy Stephens vs. Drakkar Klose serves as the co-main event.
