Ricky Simon scored a highlight-reel KO finish in the second round against Raphael Assuncao tonight at UFC Fight Night 199.
Round One:
Simon lands a leg kick that illegally strays to the groin and straight away forces a stoppage for him to recover.
Leg kick from Assuncao. Body kick from Simon. Inside kick from Assuncao. Simon looking for a body kick and Assuncao cops to the leg again. Head kick attempt from Simon just whistles past his opponent’s head.
Simon in on the takedown and brings Assuncao down. Simon working into half-guard and soon scrambles around to the back, but Assuncao is able to drive back up to his feet. Simon still clinched up though and looking for his next takedown attempt.
Assuncao attempts a spinning backfist that just misses and then Simon goes for the takedown, walks Assuncao along the cage and then dumps him to the mat.
Simon gets back to half-guard. he looks to land an elbow. Assuncao gets him back to full guard. Half-guard pass again from Simon though. Nice elbow lands. Assuncao gets to his knees and tries to stand, but Simon prevents that for now.
Simon back in full guard now and lands a few ground and pound blows before the round ends.
Round Two:
Calf kick for Assuncao. Now a body kick. A quick jab lands. Front kick to the body from Simon. Calf kick for him.
Simon with a right hand. He attempts to work a takedown, but Assuncao brushes him off. Head kick attempt from Simon is blocked.
Simon with a right hand. Now he lands a big right hook behind the ear and it drops Assuncao, then follows him to the mat and lands a hard uppercut and left hand to seal a KO finish of the veteran at the 2.14min mark of the second round.
