Geoff Neal suffered a serious health scare recently that has forced him out of his fight with Neil Magny on August 29th, but the UFC have found a big name replacement for him as former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler will now step up instead.
“It’s really hard to try to find an eloquent way to say “I almost died.” So screw it.. I almost died,” Neal explained on Instagram. “This really put alot of things into perspective for me. Never did I ever think I would be hooked up to a dialysis machine before my 30s.
“Everything was going well for me. Was training everyday, making money at work, just signed a contract for a huge fight, then BOOM, life hit me with a check hook. I’m just glad to be home after having to spend 1 week in the ICU. Stay healthy out there y’all and listen to your body at all times.”
As for Lawler, he’ll be fighting for the first time since a unanimous decision loss to Colby Covington back in August of last year.
That was Lawler’s third loss in a row, having previously suffered a unanimous decision loss to Rafael dos Anjos and then succumbed to a somewhat controversial submission loss to Ben Askren.
Meanwhile, Magny been more active recently, having already fought twice in 2020, earning decision victories over both Li Jingliang and Anthony Rocco Martin.
