Roy Nelson wasted little time demolishing Dave Herman with a single punch at UFC 146 tonight.
Herman had a big height advantage in this fight and he looked to be using it effectively in the opening minute of the fight, trying to throw kicks and knees while keeping a safe distance from his opponent.
Then out-of-the-blue Nelson came in with a bombing overhand right and it landed flush and took Herman’s leg out from under him, sending him crashing down to the mat like a controlled explosion.
Herman was dazed but the cobwebs cleared as Nelson threw another strike, but the referee had already seen enough and was on his way to stop the fight with just 51 seconds of the fight gone.
It’s perhaps a little unfair on Herman given that he was able to get straight to his feet after the fight ended, but in all fairness he did look to be out momentarily when that huge punch landed.
All in all it’s great footage for Nelson’s highlight reel and this victory buys him some breathing room in the UFC’s heavyweight division after going just 1-3 in his last four Octagon outings prior to tonight.
