Ryan Loder used his wrestling to control Robert Valentin on the mat tonight at UFC On ESPN 62, before trapping him in the crucifix position in the 2nd round to deliver fight-ending elbows.
Round One:
Body kick for Loder. Valentin steps forward and Loder immediately changes levels and goes for a takedown. They go up against the cage and then Loder manages to bring him to the mat.
Valentin trying to work a submission off his back but nothing doing. Loder settling on top now. He’s trying to set up a submission, but then Valentin scrambles and gets on top.
Valentin has the back and sinks in a rear-naked choke. Somehow Loder seems ok though and is actually trying to throw punches.
Loder survives that attempt, but Valentin regroups and then goes for another rear-naked choke. Loder start to turn into his opponent though, enabling him to settle on top in Valentin’s guard.
After that intense spell tings slow down now as Loder banks some time in control on top. He stays there until the end of the round.
Round Two:
Green swings wildly and then gets into the clinch against the cage. They peel off the cage with Loder trying to get the takedown and he gets it, but it’s a bit of a scramble.
Loder able to secure top position though and gets to the crucifix position. He starts dropping down good elbow strikes now. Valentin trying hard to escape but is unable to get out and so has to eat more elbows. Valentin is trapped and so after a few more elbows is all it takes to convince the ref to end the fight, handing Loder the TKO victory at 1.49mins of the 2nd round.
