Ryan Spann Taps Out Ion Cutelaba In Opening Round At UFC On ESPN 36

Ryan Spann got the better of a fast and furious opening few minutes against Ion Cutelaba tonight at UFC On ESPN 36, seizing on a guillotine choke finish midway through the round.

Round One:

Cutelaba lands a stepping jab to start and Spann gets a right hand over the top. Punch lands for Cutelaba. Spann tries to punch to the body.

Front kick upstairs from Spann just misses. Right hand from Spann and looks to follow up with another. However, Cutelaba then lands a nice takedown.

Cutelaba in half-guard, but Spann gets it back to full guard. Spann able to kick Cutelaba off and stands back up.

However, Cutelaba is able to bring Spann back down again quickly. Powerful Kick off from Spann though that knocks Cutelaba off-balance and falls backwards. Spann gets up and tries a superman punch, but Cutelaba trips him to bring the fight back down.

Spann kicks him off again and then avoids a winging punch from Cutelaba that sees him stumble forward onto the mat. Spann capitalizes by sinking in a guillotine choke and goes to the mat with it, with Cutelaba then rapidly tapping out at the 2.22min mark.
