Shara Magomedov was able to show off his striking ability over three rounds against Michal Oleksiejczuk today at UFC On ABC 7 to earn a unanimous decision victory.
Round One:
Leg kick for Magomedov and Oleksiejczuk lands a body punch. Another leg kick from Magomedov. Now a left hook from Magomedov as Oleksiejczuk was coming forward.
Good punch from Oleksiejczuk puts Magomedov down briefly. He seems ok though back on his feet. Right hand counter from Magomedov and a punch.
Low kick for Magomedov and a punch from Oleksiejczuk. Constant pressure from Oleksiejczuk. Heavy knee from Magomedov as Oleksiejczuk was coming forward.
Jab for Oleksiejczuk. Elbow for Magomedov in close. Another jab. Inside leg kick from Oleksiejczuk. He lands a body punch as he moves Magomedov back. Oleksiejczuk bleeding close to the temple from the earlier elbow.
Side kick to the body from Magomedov. Now a body kick from him. He goes for a head kick too, but Oleksiejczuk catches that, but doesn’t use it to take him down.
Oleksiejczuk staying aggressive here, throwing punch and a kick. Spinning attack from Magomedov misses.
leg kick for Oleksiejczuk. Heavy inside leg kick from Magomedov. He tries for a high kick without finding the mark.
left hook from Oleksiejczuk and a knee to the body from Magomedov. jab for Oleksiejczuk. Body punch for Magomedov. Magomedov tries to size up a jumping knee, but doesn’t commit to it.
Round Two:
Oleksiejczuk urgently moving forward. Magomedov misses on a head kick. left hook for Magomedov. He’s comfortable fighting off his back foot and even throws a superman punch while doing so.
Low kick for Magomedov. Oleksiejczuk ducks under a strike to work for a takaedown attempt, but Magomedov stays upright and moves away.
Jab for Magomedov. Now a heavy right hand. Low kick lands and a body punch. Left hand for Oleksiejczuk. jab for Magomdov and a body punch from Oleksiejczuk.
Magomedov punches to the midsection. Jab for Magomedov. Magomedov fires off the right hand and then a jab. left hand from Oleksiejczuk.
Shovel hook from Oleksiejczuk. Body punch for him. He comes cloes with a left hook. leg kick for Magomedov. Jumping knee and then elbows from the clinch from Magomedov.
Magomedov avoids a punch and then fires back with one of his own. He attempts a kick, but Oleksiejczuk catches it and works for a takedown. He gets Magomedov down to his knees against the cage. He’s trying to work around to his back but there’s not much time left in the round and he seems to just settle for the position he’s in.
Round Three:
Oleksiejczuk still pressing forward. Magomedov tries to keep him at bay with a side kick upstairs. Now a side kick to the body.
Overhand left from Oleksiejczuk. left hook for Magomedov and then avoids a punch on the way out. Jab for Magomedov.
leg kick for Oleksiejczuk. Calf kick from Magomedov. Glancing left hook from Oleksiejczuk. magomedov gets into the clinch and then works a knee. Back out the clinch and lands another strike. Low kick for Magomedov.
Side kick to the body from Magomedov and then grazes the target with a hook. Knees to the body from Magomedov in the clinch.
Big head kick from Magomedov lands, but Oleksiejczuk took it and drives in for a takedown. Magomedov does well to defend against it for now though. Oleksiejczuk still working on this against the cage with a minute and a half to go.
Magomedov continuing to defend in the clinch and then gets away. Final minute. Oleksiejczuk goes in for a single-leg and then whips him to the mat.
Oleksiejczuk gets into Magomedov’s full guard. Magomedov striking with elbows from his back and they look effective. Oleksiejczuk can’t really get anything going here given how active Magomedov is being with his strikes and his opportunity to make something happen late in the round fizzles out.
Those elbow from Magomedov late in the round may have taken a toll on Oleksiejczuk as he doesn’t get back up after the bell and is only just getting back to his feet as the decision is being read.
Decision:
No doubts about the winner here with Magomedov’s dynamic and accurate offense being on display all fight long despite Oleksiejczuk’s pressure, and thhat leads him to a unanimous decision victory (30-27 x2, 29-28).
