Shavkat Rakhmonov Taps Out Neil Magny At UFC On ESPN 38

Shavkat Rakhmonov continued his impressive unbeaten run tonight at UFC On ESPN 38 with his biggest win to date, a second round submission finish against Neil Magny.

Round One:

Inside leg kick for Magny. Now a front kick to the body. He tries another front kick and Rakhmonov catches it and brings him down off it.

Rakhmonov already has knee-on-belly but then settles in half-guard. He takes his time, but then postures up and starts landing some solid punches.

Magny threatening with upkicks. Rakhmonov trying to improve his position, but so is Magny who tries to wall walk. Rakhmonov remains on top though.

Rakhmonov with punches on top and then thinks about a guillotine choke, but quickly lets go of it. Rakhmonov in half-guard and lands a nice elbow.

Magny working for a leg lock here. Rakhmonov almost out, but Magny is being dogged in going for this and so Rakhmonov continues to have to defend it. Eventually Rakhmonov stands and tries to get his leg free. He’s unable to do so for now and Magny is still going for this.

Rakhmonov stays cool though and does manage to get free of the submission and settle back on top just as the round is coming to an end.

Round Two:

Magny looking to jab from range. They trade jabs. Kick from Magny is almost caught by Rakhmonov again.

Spinning attack from Rakhmonov and then into the clinch against the cage. Both fighters looking for a trip here, but it’s Rakhmonov who does succeed in getting his opponent down.

Rakhmonov posturing over Magny here and then goes down in side control. Rakhmonov thinking about taking an arm and Magny scrambles. Rakhmonov still in side control and thinking about a d’arce choke, but doesn’t commit to it.

Half-guard for Rakhmonov now. He postures up and lands a few punches. Light strikes from him for now. He lands a heavier blow and then stands over Magny. He drops a couple of punches down and goes back into half-guard.

Final 10 seconds and Rakhmonov sinks in a guillotine choke and drops back to the mat with it. Not much time to work for the finish here, but he manages to get it anyway, with Magny tapping out with just two seconds of the round remaining!
