Thiago Alves Returns To Fight Seth Baczynski At UFC On FOX 11

Welterweight striker Thiago Alves will finally return to the Octagon to face Seth Baczynski at UFC On FOX 11 after a long layoff from the sport.

Alves hasn’t fought since a submission loss to Martin Kampmann back in March of 2012. Since then he’s been slated to fight a number of times, but has had to pull out due to a series of injury setbacks.

Alves earned himself a title shot against Georges St.Pierre in 2009 after a seven fight winning streak, but the 30 year-old has had a tough time since, losing four of his last six bouts.

He was also being diagnosed with a brain abnormality in 2010 following a pre-fight CAT scan, though luckily a simple corrective procedure was all that was required to fix the issue on that occasion.

Meanwhile, Backzynski is coming off a win against Neil Magny in November of last year that snapped a two fight losing streak. In total ‘The Polish Pistola’ has a 5-2 record so far inside the Octagon.

Alves Vs Backzynski joins an already stacked FOX card on April 19th that includes the likes of Fabricio Werdum Vs Travis Brown, Miesha Tate Vs Liz Carmouche, Donald Cerrone Vs Edson Barboza and Rafael Dos Anjos Vs Khabib Nurmagomdeov.

Over the years I've watched the UFC develop into the powerhouse it is today, organizations like PRIDE, Strikeforce and WEC rise and fall, and Bellator emerge as a new force on the MMA landscape. Throughout it all I've remained captivated by the sport and I'm excited to cover what comes next here on MMA Insight.
